The RH Story

I built Rodeo Hoops because of my obsession with basketball.

I've always wanted to do something in the basketball world, but had no clue how to get in. I def wasn't good enough to play pro, or knowledgable enough to coach.

I've lived in 4 different cities, and no matter where I ended up, I was always playing ball.

There was this constant voice in the back of my head saying I should be doing something basketball related.

After living in San Fran, Toronto, and Paris, I came back to Edmonton - my hometown, where I spent the first 19 years of my life.

While here, I wanted new basketball shoes. But when I checked out the mall and other sports stores, the options were super limited.

The market's dominated by a few brands, and the stores usually all carry the same lineup. Nothing I was specifically looking for.

I could order online, but without trying them on first, I wasn't sure what size to get.

I went down this rabbit hole - watching countless YouTube reviews, scrolling through Reddit forums.

Then I found the shoe I really wanted (The Anta Eclosion Type 2).

But there was literally one video about it... in Chinese. 

I figured there were other people out there interested in these shoes too.

So I placed a small order – about 80 pairs of some of the best-reviewed sneakers that I figured other Canadian hoopers would want too.

Now, instead of planning my next move out of Edmonton, I'm staying here.

Growing this business and hopefully expanding to other cities down the line.

The more I can grow this and help other Canadian hoopers get access to these shoes, the happier I'll be.

Why start in Edmonton?

I could've started in Toronto - way bigger market.

But growing up here, I know Edmonton always gets overlooked - all the cool stuff happened in the bigger cities like Van or Toronto.

So I chose to start in my hometown and build something cool that the rest of Canada doesn't have yet.

You're also super early. I don't know how long I'll keep this page up, but the site felt a bit empty with just a small selection of shoes. So I figured I'd share the story of how Rodeo Hoops came to be.
